Van't Hoff Factor
Colligative Property Of Solutions :
Those property of solutions that depends on amount of solute not on nature of solute.
In non-ideal solution there is association or dissociation of solute particles due to which there is difference in experimental colligative property, molecular mass and theoretical colligative property and molecular mass. To nullify he effect of association and dissociation, equation is multiplied by a factor called Van't Hoff Factor.
For dissociation i > 1
experimental colligative property > theoretical colligative property
experimental molar mass < theoretical molar mass
For association i < 1
experimental colligative property < theoretical colligative property
experimental molar mass > theoretical molar mass
Formula for Van't Hoff Factor :
i = normal molecular mass / observed molecular mass
